How this works. Insurers group occupations into risk classes because some jobs are far more likely to lead to a disability claim. Your class doesn't just set your premium; it decides which contracts you can even buy. Only the lowest-risk classes (typically 4A and 3A professionals) can access the most generous own-occupation definition and non-cancellable contracts; higher-risk trades pay more and get more limited options.
